Rolling Meadows duo stays hot vs. Wheeling
It might not be Italian beef and Italian sausage but Rolling Meadows' Evan Grace to Ben Petermann is still a great combo.
Grace and Petermann hooked up three times Friday as Meadows cruised past Wheeling 34-6 in the MSL East opener for both teams.
Grace and Petermann (8 receptions, 152 yards) connected on touchdown passes of three, 31 and 43 yards. They now have combined for 12 touchdown passes this season.
Grace (15-of-25, 218 yards) also threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Chaney. Skip Rozanski (19 carries, 113 yards) had a 3-yard touchdown run for the Mustangs (4-1, 1-0).
Wheeling (3-2, 0-1) scored on an interception return by AJ Marchetti.
Barrington 27, Schaumburg 14:
Barrington (2-3, 1-0) rallied from a 14-13 deficit early in the third quarter to pick up its second consecutive win.
Dillon Fitzpatrick scored on a 17-yard run with 8:22 left in the third quarter to put the Broncos up for good. Payton Soske added a 1-yard touchdown run just over two minutes later to help seal the victory.
The teams traded touchdowns earlier with Soskse scoring on an 8-yard run. Schaumburg (2-3, 0-1) responded as Njari Williams tallied on a 1-yard run. Fitzpatrick put the Broncos up 13-7 at the half with a 1-yard run. Schaumburg then pulled ahead 14-13 on its first possession of the second half on a 30-yard scoring burst by Anthony DiGioia.
Lakes 41, North Chicago 0:
Max Bausch (7-of-8, 106 yards) threw a pair of touchdown passes to Tyson Dewey (4 receptions, 76 yards) covering 26 and 19 yards as Lakes (3-2, 2-1) rolled to a 41-0 halftime advantage. Amir Al Hindi, Jacob Perry and Cade Primal each had touchdown runs for the Eagles. The Lakes defense held North Chicago to 79 yards.
Libertyville 41, Waukegan 8:
Libertyville (3-2, 2-1) had an easy time with Waukegan (0-5, 0-3) as the Wildcats bolted to a 27-0 halftime lead. Charles True had a 32-yard touchdown run, Kristian Gavric scored on a 7-yard run and Mason Marabella added a 2-yard run as the Wildcats lead 21-0 after the first quarter.
Charles Clark returned a fumbled snap 26 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. Rocco Lavista put the game away with a pair of touchdown runs in the third quarter, scoring from 52 and 11 yards out.
Maine South 43, Glenbrook North 0:
Jack DeFillippis threw three touchdown passes as the Hawks (3-2, 1-0) opened the CSL South with a solid win. DeFillippis threw a 37-yard scoring pass to Sean Mullan and a pair of touchdown passes to Nick Wong that covered 22 and 15 yards. Anthony Capesius, Andres Pinto and Constantine Coines each had rushing touchdowns. Sam Taglia added a 28-yard field goal.
Maine West 42, Maine East 0:
Maine West (2-3, 1-0) got the best of district rival Maine East (1-4, 0-1) in the Des Plaines River Rivalry. Isaac Pittman scored a trio of first half touchdowns on runs of eight and nine yards. He also scored on a 51-yard pass from Tommy Delaney (8-of-10, 161 yards). Delaney also threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Adam Aboebied. Onell Miller Smith and Aboebied each had touchdown runs. The Warriors defense held Maine East (1-4, 0-1) to 88 yards of offense.
Notre Dame 33, St. Viator 7:
St. Viator (3-2) fell behind 21-0 at the half and the Lions could not recover. Nicky Pastore threw a touchdown pass to Michael Nix for the lone touchdown for the Lions.
Stevenson 35, Mundelein 6:
Stevenson (2-3, 1-2) scored the game's first 35 points as the Patriots bounced back from consecutive losses. Mundelein (3-2, 2-1) suffered its first loss in North Suburban Conference play. Griffin Troha threw a touchdown pass for the Mustangs.
Grant 38, Round Lake 7:
Grant (2-3, 1-2) broke a two-game losing streak as the Bulldogs piled up 488 yards of offense, including 368 on the ground. Round Lake fell to 0-5, 0-3.
Willowbrook 35, Leyden 7:
Jacob Sarnecke had a 45-yard interception return for Leyden (0-5, 0-3) in the first quarter that tied the game for the Eagles at 7-7. Willowbrook then scored 28 unanswered points to pull away.
