White Sox's Anderson appeals suspension for obscene gesture

Before heading to Minnesota to open a three-game series against the Twins Friday, the White Sox had a miserable stay in Cleveland.

After bad weather postponed games against the Guardians Monday and Tuesday, the Sox scored 2 total runs while being swept in a doubleheader Wednesday and lost to Cleveland 6-3 Thursday.

Tim Anderson was probably the first one on the White Sox's charter flight out of town.

Playing two of the games vs. the Guardians, Anderson made 5 errors while going 1-for-8.

Obviously frustrated in Game 1 Wednesday after committing 3 errors in the first two innings, Anderson was spotted raising his middle finger toward the crowd at Progressive Field.

On Friday, the Sox's shortstop was suspended for one game by MLB and fined an undisclosed amount.

Anderson appealed the ruling and played against the Twins. He missed the first two games of the year serving a suspension from late last season, when he made contact with home plate umpire Tim Timmons.

Harrison update:

Infielder Josh Harrison missed his second straight Friday, but he hopes to be back in the White Sox's lineup Saturday.

Playing third base in Game 2 Wednesday at Cleveland, Harrison made a great diving catch in left field. He almost collided with Andrew Vaughn and wound up with a right shoulder injury.

Foster takes leave:

Matt Foster, who is off to a solid start out of the Sox's bullpen, was placed on the family medical leave list.

In 5 relief appearances, the right-hander has allowed only 1 run on 3 hits in 6⅓ innings and has 5 strikeouts.
