Bears place Hicks on COVID list; Fields sits out practice

Bears quarterback Justin Fields sat out practice Thursday due to an ankle injury.

Head coach Matt Nagy revealed the injury Wednesday, but said he didn't think it would keep Fields from playing Sunday at Seattle. Fields was a limited participant when the team returned to practice Wednesday, but then he sat out all of Thursday's walk-through practice.

Fields said the injury occurred in the second quarter Monday against Minnesota.

"Obviously, he played through it, so now we've just got to see how it goes and see where he's at the rest of the week," Nagy said Wednesday.

Three other players sat out practice Thursday: defensive back Xavier Crawford (concussion), receiver Jakeem Grant (concussion) and left tackle Jason Peters (ankle).

Receiver Marquise Goodwin (foot) returned to full participation after being limited Wednesday. Defensive tackle Eddie Goldman (finger), receiver Darnell Mooney (ankle), linebacker Roquan Smith (hamstring), defensive tackle Khyiris Tonga (shoulder) and quarterback Andy Dalton (left hand/groin) were all full participants.

COVID update

Bears defensive tackle Akiem Hicks is the latest player placed on the COVID-19 list. The team made the move Thursday.

Hicks recorded 2 sacks in Monday's loss to the Vikings. It was his first game back since injuring his ankle on Nov. 8 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Additionally, the Bears removed Dalton and defensive end Mario Edwards from the COVID-19 list.

The team has 10 players on the COVID-19 list. Offensive coordinator Bill Lazor and special teams coordinator Chris Tabor both returned to Halas Hall after missing time with COVID-19.

Hicks' addition to the list puts his status in jeopardy heading into Sunday's game. He would have to clear protocol by Saturday in order to fly with the team to Seattle.

Transactions

The Bears signed outside linebacker Sam Kamara to the active roster from the practice squad and signed outside linebacker Ledarius Mack, who they recently released, to the practice squad.
