Bears' Jackson returns, 3 players come off COVID-19 list

Bears safety Eddie Jackson returned to practice from the non-football injury list on Tuesday at Halas Hall.

Jackson injured his hamstring before training camp. Tuesday was his first practice back since camp opened two weeks ago. He had been present for most practices, watching from the sidelines and staying involved vocally.

Tuesday he donned his helmet and his new No. 4 jersey.

"This offseason was a real grind for me," Jackson said. "I feel like I probably worked the hardest I've ever worked in the offseason. So things like that sort of happen."

Jackson indicated the injury might have been from overwork. It wasn't so painful that he couldn't train through it. He felt he could've played, but team trainer Andre Tucker wanted Jackson to take it slow.

Additionally, three players returned off the reserve/COVID 19 list. On Monday, the Bears officially activated long snapper Patrick Scales, offensive tackle Elijah Wilkinson and linebacker Christian Jones. Defensive tackle Eddie Goldman remains on the reserve/COVID-19 list. The Bears placed all four players on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Aug. 3.

Unvaccinated players who are deemed close contacts to someone with COVID-19 must go on the reserve/COVID-19 list for at least five days. Players who are vaccinated do not need to go on the reserve/COVID-19 list even if they are deemed a close contact.

The injury list remains long for the Bears as they prepare for their first preseason game Saturday at Soldier Field against the Miami Dolphins.

New injuries Tuesday included linebacker Danny Trevathan (knee soreness) and Marquise Goodwin (foot soreness), who will both sit out practice Tuesday morning.

Receiver Dazz Newsome (collarbone), tackle Teven Jenkins (back), safety Tashaun Gipson (groin), lineman James Daniels (quadriceps), inside linebacker Josh Woods (quadriceps), tackle Larry Borom (concussion), tight end J.P. Holtz (quadriceps), receiver Thomas Ives (leg), tackle Lachavious Simmons (concussion) and inside linebacker Roquan Smith (groin) have all been dealing with injuries in recent days.
