Jimenez set to rejoin White Sox Monday
The nonwaiver trade deadline is Friday, and the first-place White Sox are likely stepping up their efforts to add help in the bullpen and at second base.
They're good in the outfield.
When the Sox play the Royals in Kansas City on Monday night, Eloy Jimenez is going to be in the lineup.
"We're excited about it," White Sox manager Tony La Russa said.
Jimenez has been out since March 24, when he tried to make a catch in an exhibition game. The left fielder ruptured his left pectoral tendon.
He started a rehabilitation assignment on July 10 and batted .289/.327/.467 with 2 home runs and 4 RBI in 12 games with Class AAA Charlotte and A Winston-Salem.
Jimenez has been injured three times in the last three years playing left field, so he's an option at designated hitter for the Sox. He's also expected to get playing time in the outfield.
"I anticipate he'll play (Monday) as a DH or left field, I'm not sure," La Russa said. "I think we'll just see for ourselves. But I understand both are available."
