White Sox still looking to flip power switch
The White Sox headed into Tuesday night's game against the Twins with their starting rotation ranked first in baseball with a 2.66 ERA.
The Sox also led the major leagues in run differential (+53) and the offense topped the American League in on-base percentage (.339).
The numbers have been adding up during a May surge, but the White Sox were last in the AL with 27 home runs through Monday's play.
Not having injured outfielders Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert has sapped much of the Sox's power, but Yoan Moncada, Yasmani Grandal and others have been having early trouble clearing the fences.
"It's been a little unfair power-wise because there have been some balls that will go out this summer that have been hit in the last month or so," manager Tony La Russa said. "Of course, the other team has done that a couple of times, too. It hasn't been conducive for the ball traveling, but we are still scoring runs."
Andrew Vaughn hit 50 homers in 160 games over three collegiate seasons at Cal, but the rookie left fielder is looking for his first in the majors.
"I think it'll happen eventually," Vaughn said. "It's not something I'm going out trying to do. I pride myself on being a hitter first and I've always said that. I think that's the biggest part of my game, getting into that groove and just going at it every day."
