McRae joins White Sox bullpen from Schaumburg

In need of a fresh arm in the bullpen, the White Sox purchased right-hander Alex McRae's contract from Schaumburg on Tuesday.

A day after he threw 49 pitches over 3 innings in relief of Lucas Giolito at Boston, Zack Burdi was optioned to the Sox's alternate training site at Wintrust Field.

The 28-year-old McRae made 2 relief appearances for the White Sox last season and allowed 1 hit over 3 scoreless innings.

On the injury front, starter Lance Lynn (strained right trapezius) was tested Tuesday and he remains on track to be activated and pitch against the Tigers on April 27 or 28.

Outfielder Billy Hamilton (hamstring) is also making good progress at Schaumburg and might be ready to return when the Sox are back home Friday night.
