Cubs announce Alzolay as starter for Wednesday's Game 2

Adbert Alzolay will start Game 2 of today's doubleheader against St. Louis, manager David Ross confirmed.

Alzolay has been working at the team's satellite camp in South Bend. He might have started Monday but was struck by a line drive on his right forearm. Out of precaution, the Cubs instead brought up Tyson Miller to make his major league debut. Miller pitched 2 innings and was sent back down after the game.

The Cubs determined Alzolay's injury wasn't serious, so he is the extra man added to the roster for Wednesday's doubleheader. A native of Venezuela, Alzolay made his debut last season. He started two games and pitched 12⅓ innings with a 7.30 ERA.

With Thursday off the Cubs' rotation is expected to stay in its previous alignment for the White Sox series this weekend, with Jon Lester, Kyle Hendricks and Yu Darvish starting.

Injured lefty Jose Quintana is scheduled to throw a simulated game Friday in South Bend. He could return to action next week.
