Greetings from Spring Training: White Sox paying attention to detail

GLENDALE, Ariz. - Cactus League games begin on Saturday, but the drills will continue.

That's really what spring training is all about, working on all of the small stuff that eventually helps a team make a big playoff push.

Like all major-league teams getting ready for the season in Arizona and Florida, the White Sox are on the back fields early every day.

Live batting practice attracts the most attention, but working on bunting, pickoffs, sliding and relay throws are detail drills Sox manager Rick Renteria and the coaching staff pay plenty of attention to.

The full-squad work started Monday after Renteria addressed his players.

"We set basically our parameters, our goals, and we're going to try and get it done," Renteria said. "I always get a little heated, but hopefully it's in a good way. None of us are hedging our bets. Everyone has tremendously high expectations."
