Girls volleyball: Lakes wins NLCC outright; Stevenson earns share of NSC title

Kelli Rettig delivered 8 kills and 3 aces, Devinn Bell dished out 20 assists, and Lakes' girls volleyball team completed a perfect run through the Northern Lake County Conference by beating visiting Grayslake North 25-21, 25-22 on Thursday night.

Lakes (24-10), which celebrated Senior Night, finished 7-0 in the NLCC.

The Eagles' other contributors included Ashley Smith (5 kills, 3 digs), Allison Stover (9 digs), Molly Reuland (4 kills) and Mackenzie Stone (4 kills).

Grayslake North was led by Teagan Johnston with 4 kills. Emily Porter, Emma Hochstein and Jessica Pozezinski added 3 kills each. Lexie Baker had 13 digs, while Abby Cunnigham and Lindsey Diep each handed out 13 assists.

Stevenson d. Libertyville: The host Patriots won 25-22, 25-27, 25-12 to hand the Wildcats their first North Suburban Conference loss and earn a share of the conference championship.

The match started on for Sept. 11 and was suspended after one set due to a tornado warning.

Amanda Holsen had 17 kills and 9 digs for Stevenson (21-14). The Patriots and Libertyville (25-10) both finished 6-1 in the NSC.

Lily Cozzi added 9 kills for Stevenson, while Grace Tully tallied 27 assists, 12 digs, 3 kills and 3 aces. Emerson Kouri served 5 aces for the Patriots, Emma Potocki had 3 kills and 2 solo blocks, and Olivia Barreca contributed 10 digs.

Peyton O'Brien had 22 assists, 4 kills, 3 blocks and 7 digs for Libertyville. Ella Schaffnit posted 11 kills and 2 blocks, while Kellie Hopper collected 8 kills and 13 digs. The Wildcats' other contributors included Cassidy Jones (3 kills), Kiera Kasten (4 kills, 2 blocks), Ivey Fowler (3 blocks), Kaylie Stuteville (3 blocks), Olivia Sauers (2 aces, 8 digs) and Alannah Howell (9 digs).

Vernon Hills d. Highland Park: The host Cougars captured a 25-21, 25-13 decision in Central Suburban League North Division action for their third win in a row.

Juniors Abby Wisniewski, Daniella Jarrell and Taylor Proft led the offense for Vernon Hills (17-13, 5-5). Wisniewski handed out 25 assists, 18 of them going to Jarrell and Proft, each of whom had 9 kills. Freshmen Elli Amjadi and Alexa Cieslinski paced the Cougars defense with 10 digs each. From the service line, Cieslinski and senior Jacklyn Self both added 2 aces.
