Girls volleyball: Carmel outlasts Libertyville in 3 sets

Annie Bart had 11 kills and 13 aces, and Carmel Catholic's girls volleyball team rallied to defeat visiting Libertyville 18-25, 25-16, 25-17 in a nonconference match between Lake County powers on Monday night.

Riley Clark and Eileen Tarcha added 9 kills apiece for the Corsairs (29-5) on Senior Night, while Shannon Brennan dished out 16 assists. Tarcha had 12 digs and 2 aces, as well. Carmel's other contributors included Ally DiBartolo (9 digs, 1 ace), Kaitlyn Donton (13 assists, 3 digs), Tayah Farris (3 kills, 1 block), Molly Halverson (1 assist), Mya Mainzer (4 kills, 2 blocks), Milana Moisio (20 digs, 3 kills, 6 assists) and Sydney Rini (3 digs).

Libertyville fell to 24-9.

"The atmosphere in the gym was amazing," Carmel coach Dave Pazely said. "The rivalry between these two great schools made tonight's match between two teams having great seasons even more exciting. ... The coaches on both sides were making changes and adjustments all throughout the match, and as soon as one side earned a point, the other was able to respond with a sideout of their own. We found a couple passers to pressure when serving and it made the difference in games 2 and 3. We kept Libertyville out of system and their setter wasn't able to be as aggressive as she likes to be when she's in the front row. Our defense was able to read and set up a little easier, and our offense transitioned well as our setter found some rhythm."

Grant d. Mundelein: Jazzlyn Linbo and Anelise Johnson had 7 and 6 kills, respectively, as the host Bulldogs won 25-16, 25-22 in nonconference action.

Courtney Levy added 11 digs and 2 aces for Grant.

Mundelein (5-24) was led by Faith Krabbe's 5 kills, 3 blocks and 5 assists. Olivia Cartland also had 5 kills for the Mustangs.

Lake Zurich d. Wheaton North: Chelsea Williams had 13 kills and 2 aces for the host Bears in their 26-24, 25-20 nonconference win.

Jarynn Hartman added 8 kills for Lake Zurich (10-23), Katie Keenan collected 11 digs, and Leah Salit delivered 23 assists.
