Girls volleyball: Cunningham, Diep deliver for Grayslake North

Senior setters Abby Cunningham and Lindsey Diep delivered 9 and 8 assists, respectively, and Grayslake North's girls volleyball team celebrated Senior Night by defeating visiting Waukegan 25-21 25-10 in Northern Lake County Conference action on Tuesday.

Junior outside hitters Jessica Pozezinski and Teagan Johnston both had 7 kills for the Knights (17-10, 3-2). Senior defensive specialists Lexie Baker and Faith Standerski each contributed 8 digs.

Grant d. Highland Park: The visiting Bulldogs earned a 25-19, 26-24 in nonconference action, as Jazzlyn Linbo had 10 kills and 2 blocks.

Anelise Johnson added 7 kills for Grant (12-13), and Courtney Levy posted 9 digs.

Grayslake Central d. Mundelein: Marissa Gulley had 9 kills, and the host Rams outlasted the Mustangs 16-25, 25-17, 25,17 in a nonconference match.

Taylor Hindman and Taylor Ford each servedf 3 aces for Grayslake Central, while Kate Bullman tallied 7 kills and 5 blocks.

Olivia Cartland had 7 kills and 2 aces for Mundelein (4-18). Faith Krabbe tallied 17 assists, 5 kills and 2 blocks for the Mustangs, who also received 6 kills from Willow Ottoman.

Libertyville d. Vernon Hills: On Monday night, the host Wildcats won the nonconference match 25-14, 25-13 to improve to 20-6, while the two schools joined forces to raise money for the SideOut foundation and the Dig Pink initiative for stage IV breast cancer research.

"It was a successful night playing for hope and for our loved ones currently battling breast cancer," said Libertyville coach Greg Loika, who earned his 300th win.

Kellie Hopper and Ella Schaffnit had 7 and 5 kills, respectively, for the Wildcats, while Peyton O'Brien tallied 10 assists, 4 blocks, 2 kills and 2 aces. Libertyville's other contributors included Alannah Howell (2 kills), Cassidy Jones (3 kills, 4 blocks) and Olivia Sauers (7 digs).

Vernon Hills fell to 14-12.

Niles North d. Warren: On Monday night, the host Blue Devils fell 25-20, 25-18 in nonconferene action but raised over $1,800 to help Erin Richter with her Fight with Cancer.

"The Blue Devil players and families worked extremely hard getting raffle items and selling tickets," Warren coach Julie Filippo said. "Even though the Devils lost the match, the real fight is that Erin does not fight alone. Blue Devils stick together and help each other out."

Liz Weinberg had 6 kills for Warren. The Blue Devils' other contributors included Kaleigh Glickley (2 aces, 9 assists), Gabrielle Brewer (1 ace, 6 assists), Ellie Columbus (1 ace, 13 digs), Faith Pollard (4 kills) and Kendall Crawford (3 kills).
