White Sox announce Eloy bobblehead giveaway for Aug. 10

The White Sox drew huge crowds on their last homestand, and the final two games against the Yankees at Guaranteed Rate Field were sold out.

Expect another packed house on Aug. 10.

The Sox play Oakland on Aug. 10, and the first 20,000 fans receive an Eloy Jimenez bobblehead. The giveaway commemorates the White Sox rookie's first major-league home run, hit on April 12 against New York at Yankee Stadium.

Moving day:

With multiple holes in the starting rotation due to injuries to Dylan Covey and Manny Banuelos, who are both dealing with sore shoulders, the Sox are scrambling to find healthy starters.

Keep an eye on Kyle Kubat, who was promoted from Class AA Birmingham to AAA Charlotte Thursday.

Kubat, a 26-year-old lefty, was acquired from the Royals for cash considerations on March 29, 2017.

In 12 starts with Birmingham and high Class A Winston-Salem this season, Kubat was 6-2 with a 2.05 ERA.

Kubat was voted the White Sox's minor-league pitcher of the month for May after going 3-1 with a 1.38 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 6 starts for Birmingham.

"It's being able to stick to a routine, stick to what I do best and making sure I don't go out there and be someone I'm not," Kubat said. "Making sure that I go out there and be me and go have fun and I pitch to contact and try to get you out and get the game over as fast as possible."

The Sox also promoted catcher Yermín Mercedes to Charlotte.

In 42 games with Birmingham, the 26-year-old Mercedes batted .327 batting average with 6 home runs and 18 RBI.

Up and running:

After missing the better part of a week with upper back tightness, Yoan Moncada looked good in Wednesday night's 7-3 loss to the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Batting right-handed against Cubs starter Jon Lester in the fourth inning, Moncada doubled.

Batting left-handed against reliever Brad Bach in the eighth, Moncada tripled.

"It was good to have him back in," manager Rick Renteria said. "He's been doing everything to be able to put himself back in that position."
