Softball: Barrington tops Elk Grove 10-2

Barrington's Jackie Albrecht raised her record to 10-0 as the Fillies stopped host Elk Grove 10-2 in the Mid-Suburban League second-place softball game on Wednesday.

The sophomore right-hander tossed a 6-hitter with 4 strikeouts as Barrington improved to 28-4.

Kendall Peterson (3 runs) connected for her 13th home run of the season. The Fillies' Katherine Stagnito (2 RBI) and Samantha Murphy (2-for-4, 3 RBI) also cleared the fence for homers.

Leyden Atlas (3-for-4, 2B) was also a multiple hitter for the Fillies while Katia Pendowski went 3-for-3 for Elk Grove (23-8).

The game featured the two winningest active high school softball coaches in Illinois. Elk Grove's Ken Grams has 948 wins and Barrington's Perry Peterson won his 840th.

Fremd 15, Rolling Meadows 5: McKenna Schneider (4-for-5, 3 RBI, 2 2B), Elaina Kraus (4-for-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI, 2 runs), Ava Jordan (2-for-3, HR, 3 RBI, 3 runs), Gianna Arnieri (3-for-4), Reagan Goluch (2-for-4) and Marisa Chalmers (2B) paced the visiting Vikings (18-8).

Senior Hailey Hazlett (4 innings, 4 hits, 2 strikeouts) was the winning pitcher (9-6) while freshman Gina Dudley struck out three and did not give up a hit in the final three innings.

Senior Sara Benner (2-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 runs) belted a homer and double for Meadows (16-12).

Buffalo Grove 8, Schaumburg 3: Junior Megan Fontanetta threw a 5-hitter with 3 strikeouts and also went 2-for-4 with a doubled for the host Bison (10-13).

Other multiple hitters for BG were Hannah Young (2-for-3, 2B, 2 runs), and Angelina Craig (3-for-4) while teammate Sam Hansen had a home run and 2 RBI.

Tiffani Rudnick led Schaumburg (11-19) by going 2-for-4 while pitcher freshman Morgan Miller struck out three.

Prospect 12, Conant 2 (6 inn): Cassie Cunniff went 2-for-3 with a home run, double and 3 runs to lead the host Knights' offense. Also with multiple hits for Prospect (9-16) were Amanda Pinter (3-fo-r4, 2 2B, 2 RBI), Kathryn Annen 2-for-3) and Alexandra Garnmeister (3-for-4, 3 RBI, 2B).

Claire Doherty earned the win, tossing a 3-hitter with 5 strikeouts.

Tara Lovas was 1-for-1 with a double for Conant (4-19).

Hoffman Estates 24, Wheeling 4 (5 inn): Brianna Venegas (5-for-6, 4 runs, 2 RBI, 2 2B), Gracie Velazquez (4-for-5, 5 runs, 3 RBI, 2 2B), Patricia Wadas (2-for-4, 4 RBI, 2 runs) and Madison Barnes (3-for-3, 5 RBI 3B, 2B, 2 runs) led the 19-hit attack for visiting Hoffman (3-26).

Emily Gross had a double and was the winning pitcher, tossing a 7-hitter with 6 strikeouts.

Nikki Ferraro (2-for-3, 2 runs), Lexi Blumka (2-for-3, 2 runs) and Sophia Stanke (2-for-3) paced Wheeling (3-20).

Leyden 9, Morton 1: Leyden improved to 17-6 as winning pitcher Emma Bertsche worked 6 innings, giving up 2 hits and striking out eight.

The Eagles' offense was led by Tara Mackey (2-for-3), Kailey Kirkwood (3-for-5, 3 runs), Elle Engelke (3-for-5, 2 RBI, 2 runs and Elyse McLaughlin (4-for-5, 3 RBI).
