Softball: Rolling Meadows makes history with 5 homers

Rolling Meadows' softball team made school history with its bats on Friday in a 12-2 six-inning Mid-Suburban East win over visiting Prospect.

The Mustangs (12-8, 5-5) hit 5 home runs in one game for the first time as Stephanie Thompson (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI), Sara Benner (2-for-4, 3 RBI), Sam Benner (2-for-4, 2 RBI), Sammy Elenz (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Emily Schmidt (3-for-4, 2B, 3 RBI) all cleared the fence.

Sara Benner became the Mustangs' all-time RBI Leader with 122.

Elise Kowalski (7-7) earned the win.

Cassie Cunniff (2-for-3 HR, 2B) and Amanda Pinter (1-for-3, HR) led the Knights (5-12, 2-7).

Palatine 9, Hoffman Estates 1: Junior southpaw Rhiann Dick (14-1) threw a 4-hitter with 3 strikeouts for visiting Palatine (17-2, 9-0).

"Rhiann did a nice job of pitching today," said Pirates assistant coach Kristen Proffitt. "It's really tough to pitch in the rain because the ball becomes slippery and it makes it hard to grip the ball the way you need to. She battled adversity well and that was nice to see."

Grace Huff (2-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI), Amanda Stanczuk (2-for-4, 2B, 4 RBI) and Emily Brinckerhoff (HR) led the offense for the Pirates while Emily Grossi (2-for-2) homered for the Hawks (1-18, 1-8).

"Grace and Amanda really came through at the plate today," Proffitt added. "Grossi was hitting nice spots and keeping people off balance, so we needed them to come through in the clutch. They're great leaders for our team and they were leaders for us on offense."

Barrington 11, Schaumburg 2: Brynn Nevers (3-fo-r4, 3 RBI) and Katherine Stagnito homered for host Barrington, which was the visitor on the scoreboard. Kendall Peterson (3-for-3, 3 runs, 2 RBI, 2 2B) and Leyden Atlas (2-for-5, 2 RBI, 2B) were multiple hitters for the Fillies (18-3, 9-1) in the MSL West game. Gina Magro also had a double.
