Chicago White Sox promote star prospect Luis Robert to Class AA Birmingham

Late last week, Chicago White Sox general manager Rick Hahn was asked about star outfield prospect Luis Robert.

"You're seeing what Luis Robert is doing in high (Class) A right now," Hahn said. "That may necessitate a change here in the not-too-distant future to add more challenges for him."

On Monday night, Robert was a double short of the cycle for class A Winston-Salem, going 4-for-5 with a home run and 3 RBI. In 19 games with the Dash, the 21-year-old center fielder batted .453/.512/.920 with 8 homers, 24 RBI and 8 stolen bases.

On Tuesday, the Sox promoted Robert to AA Birmingham.

Zack Burdi also was bumped up to Birmingham after going 1-1 with a 9.00 ERA in 3 relief appearances for low A Kannapolis. The 24-year-old reliever had 6 strikeouts in 3 innings.

Burdi, a Downers Grove South High School product, was the No. 26 overall pick in the 2016 draft out of Louisville. The right-hander had Tommy John surgery in July 2017 and missed most of last season.

The White Sox on Tuesday also promoted outfielder Steele Walker from Kannapolis to Winston-Salem. The Sox's second-round draft pick last year out of Oklahoma, Walker slashed .365/.437/.581 with 10 doubles and 11 RBI in 20 games with Kannapolis.

White Sox-Orioles rained out:

Tuesday night's scheduled game between the White Sox and Baltimore Orioles at Guaranteed Rate Field was rained out.

The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Wednesday. Game 1 starts at 3:10 p.m. Game 2 starts 30 minutes after the conclusion of the opener.

Carlos Rodon starts Game 1 for the Sox, and Ivan Nova gets the ball for the Sox in the nightcap. Look for Lucas Giolito (strained left hamstring) to come off the 10-day injured list and start Thursday against the Boston Red Sox.

Fans with game tickets, parking coupons and Huntington Bank Stadium Club passes to Wednesday night's originally scheduled game can attend both games with their ticket and parking pass. Parking lots open at 1:10 p.m. and gates open at 2:10 p.m.

Game tickets, parking coupons and Huntington Bank Stadium Club passes for Tuesday night's postponed game cannot be used for Wednesday's doubleheader unless they are exchanged at the box office before entry.

Fans also can apply the value of those tickets, parking coupons and Huntington Bank Stadium Club passes to any future regular-season game. All exchanges must be done at the Guaranteed Rate Field box office during regular business hours.

NBC Sports Chicago will televise the doubleheader.
