Boys tennis: Batavia smashes Geneva, stays undefeated

It was an old-fashioned blowout for the Batavia boys tennis team Tuesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs have not dropped a single match in the DuKane Conference after a 7-0 whitewashing of Geneva in league play.

Batavia improved to 14-0 on the season and 3-0 in league play with the victory.

Brogan Pierce did not drop a single game in winning 12 straight games in first singles.

"I think we're playing really together as a team," Pierce said. "I was playing aggressive. I hope to put on a good performance at state."

Ben Grizzafi and Cullen Bremner had no issues in claiming the first doubles title in straight sets of 6-2, 6-3.

"It's a rivalry in all sports," Grizaffi said of playing Geneva. "To sweep them today is pretty special. We didn't make a lot of errors."

The Bulldogs' Chase Bremner extended his season-long winning streak to 20 matches with his straight sets win at second singles.

In its three conference matches, Batavia has not dropped a single match.

"We are really pleased where we are at right now," Batavia coach Brad Nelson said. "Our record is great, but we know we have a lot of challenges ahead."

Isaac Schifferer and Griffin Unterberg did not drop a set against their Geneva counterparts at No. 2 doubles.

The Bulldogs' Kipp Knecht and Drew Lillig maintained the team excellence with another straight sets win at third doubles.

Benn Lirot and Kohl Winkle had the final wins for Batava in singles play.
