Softball: Fontanetta, Buffalo Grove edge Prospect

In the Mid-Suburban League pitchers duel of the day, Buffalo Grove junior Megan Fontanetta blanked visiting Prospect 1-0 in Wednesday's Mid-Suburban East softball game.

Fontanetta tossed a 6-hitter with 2 strikeouts while the Bison (4-5, 1-2) had 3 hits, one apiece from Hannah Young, Bailey Williams and Angelina Craig.

Amanda Pinter (2-for-4) and Madeline Borkowski each doubled for Prospect (4-6, 1-1), which received a 3-hitter and 5 strikeouts from Claire Doherty.

Hersey 7, Rolling Meadows 1: Hersey senior Brianna Luciano (4-1) threw a 7-hitter with 15 strikeouts as the Huskies topped host Rolling Meadows in the Mid-Suburban East. Savannah Gazda went 3-for-4 with a homer for Hersey (7-3, 1-3) which received a triple from Megan Mullen and double from Makayla Tsagalis. Sara Benner (2-4) and Stephanie Thompson (2-3) led the Mustangs (8-6, 1-3).

Barrington 17, Hoffman Estates 0: Jackie Albrecht (1-0) threw a 2-hitter with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk for host Barrington (10-1, 4-0) in the Mid-Suburban West. Leyden Atlas (2-for-2) belted a home run and double for the Fillies. Other multiple hitters were Ellie Wintringer (3-for-3, 5 RBI), Kendall Peterson (2-for-4, RBI), Katherine Stagnito (2-for-4, 2 RBI), Brynn Nevers (2-for-3, 2 runs), Samantha Murphy (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and Caroline Huttinger (2-for-3, RBI). Emily Grossi and Gracie Velazquez had the hits for Hoffman in the top of the fourth inning.

Elk Grove 14, Wheeling 0: Jaimie Klicka (3-for-3, 3B, 3 RBI), Lauren Clausen (2-for-4, 3 RBI), Taylor Schulz (2-for-4, 2B, 2 runs), Grace Engwall (2-for-2, 2 RBI) and Brooke Baldassarre (2B) led the offense for host Elk Grove. Clausen (7-1) earned the win with 5 strikeouts in three innings while Baldassarre struck out six in the final two innings. Nikki Ferraro went 2-for-3 with a triple for the Wildcats.

Schaumburg 12, Conant 8: Tiffani Rudnick (3-for-5, 4 RBI, 2B), Talia Torosian (2-for-4, 3 runs, 2B) and Abbie Greenberg each homered for host Schaumburg. Sophie Rainey (2-for-3, 2 RBI), Marisa Vodicka (3-for-4) and Kim Kolodziej (2-for-2, 2 runs) were also multiple hitters for Schaumburg (5-10, 2-3). Lauren Nielsen (4 strikeouts) earned the win. Hannah Oh (2-for-4, 2B), Trystin Lovas (3-for-4, 2 runs), Emma Wokurka (2-for-3, 2B, 2 runs) and Morgan Long (HR) paced Conant (1-9, 1-3).

Leyden 13, Hinsdale South 3: Leyden collected 17 hits to raise its record to 12-2 overall.
