Boys track and field: A perfect 10 in MSL East for Prospect

It was a pair of high-fives for Prospect Tuesday at the Mid-Suburban East Division boys track and field meet at Rolling Meadows.

Prospect won the meet for the 10th consecutive year, scoring 200 points to coast to the title.

"It is a pretty big day for the team," said Prospect coach Jay Renaud, who has led the Knights to their last three titles. "We had great performances from the guys. A lot of them been in this position already."

Nathan Kowlaski had a pair of individual wins to help lead Prospect.

"I had a real good meet," said Kowalski, who won the 300-meter hurdles in 42.05 and the long jump in 20 feet, 7 inches. "It was nice getting a long in. The 300 was a grind and I was trailing, but I was able to catch him at the line."

The Knights also got wins in the 100-meter dash from Tim Zalinski, who won in a time of: 11.4, John Moellenkamp in the 200 in 22.86 and in the 4x100 relay in: 43.11

Rolling Meadows' Joe Boyer continued his dominance in the throwing events.

The senior Illinois State recruit blasted past the 60-foot mark with a throw of 61-3 to win the shot put by over 9 feet. He was even more impressive in the discus and won by nearly 14 feet with his throw of 160-07.

"That is how it is sometimes," Boyer said. "My goal is to have my personal best in each meet and I have been able to do that."

Boyer helped pace Rolling Meadows to a second-place finish in the meet with a score of 159.

The Mustangs' Tim Szylak won the 110 hurdles with time of 15.30, Davis Ziemba won the triple Jump in 43-8 and Charlie Svoboda won the pole vault with a jump of 14 feet.

Hersey was able to finish third with score of 108 thanks to the Huskies' ability to have success in the long distance races.

"They are the strength of the team," Hersey coach Kenneth Blazek said. "We are trying to fill in with points wherever we can."

Tim Choma won the 800 meters, Tom McCarthy won the 3,200-meter run in a time of 9:45.57 and Josh Methner won the 1,600 with a time of 4:24.19. The Huskies also won the 4x800 relay with a time of 8:18.37.

The 800-meter race was one of the tightest of the evening. With 100 meters to go it was nearly a dead heat and just .43 seconds separated first place from fourth place at the finish.

Choma won the race thanks to a final kick with a time of 2:04.39. Javier Guerrero of Buffalo Grove was second with a 2:04.61, followed by Prospect's Kendall Morrow with a 2:04.65 and Logan Mertes, who posted a time of 2:04.82.
