Buffalo Grove's Lee beats buzzer, Meadows

Buffalo Grove junior Kendra Lee's game-high 24th point came just in time.

The 5-foot-11 guard/forward tossed in a 14-footer from the baseline to beat the buzzer and Class 4A state ranked Rolling Meadows 55-53 in the Mid-Suburban East thriller on Friday night.

With 30 seconds left, Macy Floro tossed home a 3-pointer which gave visiting BG a 53-52 lead.

Alexa Davis' free throw tied the game at 53 setting up Lee's big shot at the end that gave her a career-high for points, breaking her previous mark of 21 against St. Charles North last year.

The Bison (5-4, 1-1) trailed 20-9 after one quarter.

"I think tonight showed our kids' ability to battle," said BG coach Steve Kolodziej. "We came out and got punched in the mouth by a very good Meadows team. We settled into the game plan in the second quarter and just chipped away."

Junior Alyssa Ramos added 14 points for BG (5-4, 1-1) while classmates Megan Fontanetta and Floro each had 6 points with two 3-pointers apiece.

Meadows (9-2, 1-1) was led by Davis (17 points), Susannah Holifield (13) and Lily Greifenstein (10). Davis connected for three 3-pointers and Greifenstein had two.

"Sydney Fortman (senior forward) was outstanding tonight," Kolodziej added. "What she did may not show up in the box score but she had a critical basket down the stretch and she was outstanding defensively, playing her best game."

Fontanetta hit huge clutch shots off the bench while Zori Angelova also provided the Bison solid minutes

"I'm fortunate to coach these kids," Kolodziej said. "I haven't been around a group that works harder. At the end of the day, what more can I ask?

Schaumburg (3-6, 1-1) was led by Ariana Doroskin (12 points) and Talia Torisian (9 points).

"I thought Schaumburg played well," Barreiro said. "But I was happy for our girls to pull this game out."

Turczynski's 3-pointer with five seconds proved to be the difference.

"It was a big shot by Shanna and I was happy she was not afraid to take it with the time ticking off," Barreiro added. "We are moving in a positive direction and the kids have been working hard.

"We need everyone contributing at both ends of the floor and we had that tonight."
