Girls volleyball: Stevenson clinches NSC title outright
Sophie Sorenson hammered 17 kills and added 8 digs, and Stevenson's girls volleyball team clinched the North Suburban Conference championship outright by defeating visiting Lake Forest 25-18, 25-22 Wednesday night.
Stevenson finishes 7-0 in the NSC and caps the regular season with a 24-11 record.
Grace Tully set 57 of 57 with 24 assists and added 2 kills for the Patriots. Lily Cozzi and Makayla Uremovich had 4 kills apiece, while Molly Bourbon served 3 aces. Stevenson's other contributors included Abby Keevins (10 digs, 2 aces), Vanessa Obrycki (2 aces) and Annie Armgadt (2 kills).
Stevenson hosts a Class 4A regional next week. The third-seeded Patriots play at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday against the winner of Monday's play-in match between No. 14 Lake Zurich and No. 19 Grant.
Warren d. Mundelein: The Blue Devils won the North Suburban Conference finale 25-11, 25-22, spoiling the Mustangs' Senior Night, as Dana Lundtveit had 14 kills and 2 blocks.
Warren (24-6, 5-2) received tough serving from Abby Berkowicz (100 percent, 2 aces) and Ellie Columbus (14 of 14). Berkowicz also had 3 kills, 11 assists and 3 digs, while Columbus had 5 digs. Amanda Howe notched 4 aces and 17 digs, Ora Cohen collected 4 kills and 4 blocks, and Kayla Klemz dished out 13 assists.
Mundelein (20-15, 3-4), which played without Alexis Naddy, received 3 kills from Gillian Paul and 3 aces from Hana Fakhoury.
