Boys golf: Bad weather suspends play at state tournament

Bad weather suspended play in the IHSA state boys golf tournament Friday in Bloomington with most players well short of completing their first rounds of the 36-hole tournament.

The IHSA has announced that Friday's play will not count and that Saturday's 18-hole round will be for the championship.

In the Class 2A tournament, St. Viator was in first place at 10-over par and leading Charleston by 1 shot when play was suspended.

Senior Tommy Crawford played 12 holes for the Lions on Friday and was at even-par, in second place overall and 1 shot off the lead. Senior Nolan Doherty was 2-over after nine holes, senior Michael Ruben 3-over after 12 and senior EJ Reisenger 5-over after 12.

In the Class 3A tournament, Barrington stood at 7-over par, 6 shots behind leader Loyola when the players were called off the course.

After 12 holes, Broncos' junior Dominic Scaletta was 2-under par and tied for the lead with Loyola's Peter Radler. Sean Markham was even-par after 12 holes for Barrington while Matthew Lee was 4-over and Bobby Beaubien was 5-over.

Fremd's Nathan Schmidt (2-over) and Colin Robinson (4-over) only completed six holes while Prospect's Charlie Busch was 5-over after six holes.
