Saturday's Lake County roundup

Lakes' girls volleyball team won the Lake Forest Invite Saturday.

Keelan Bell and Devinn Bell were named all-tournament in leading Lakes to the championship. The Eagles had a 4-1 record for the day.

Lakes, 15-5 overall, defeated Highland Park (25-17, 25-19), Mundelein (25-16, 25-12), Lake Forest (25-20, 20-25, 15-6) and then Homewood-Flossmoor in the championship game (25-21, 25-19).

Ashley Smith earned honorable mention all-tournament for Lakes.

Also at the Lake Forest Invite, Mundelein took sixth place by going 2-3. The Mustangs defeated Highland Park (25-18, 11-25, 16-14) and Hoffman Estates (25-15, 25-14).

Alexis Naddy and Taylor Heath led the offense with 25 and 21 kills respectively. Brianna Martin added 11 kills and 7 blocks. Setter Faith Krabbe had 30 assists to go along with 8 blocks while fellow setter Claudia Wilcox added another 26 assists. Mundelein 2, Grayslake Central 1: Owen Aaberg tied up the game for Grayslake Central midway into the second half, but then Mundelein scored the game-winner about 10 minutes later.

Goalie Garcia Perez had 6 saves for Grayslake Central, which drops to 3-12-2.

"Credit to Mundelein for pressing us quickly and outworking us for the bulk of the match," Grayslake Central coach Tom Hamilton said. "We came out with energy for the first and last 10 minutes and created some decent chances, but we paid for a couple bad mistakes. When we applied immediate pressure and switched the point of attack at speed we looked good, and we're putting more shots on frame recently, but we know it has to be 80 minutes, especially when you play these strong 3A teams."

Libertyville 5, Round Lake 1: Evan Rasmussen carried Libertyville with 4 goals while goalie Zach El Gathit had 5 saves for the Wildcats.
