Girls volleyball: Maine West edges Elk Grove in opener

Maine West's girls volleyball team got off to a winning start for its 2018 season with a 26-24, 25-23 nonconference win at Elk Grove on Tuesday night.

Reilly Olson led the Warriors with 11 kills and an ace while Ally Block collected 19 assists, 4 kills, 2 aces and 5 digs.

Rachel Kandefer led the Grenadiers by putting down 8 kills while Megan Murray had 8 digs and Molly Wilson 4 assists. Lauren Bongiovanni was 13-of-14 serving with 5 aces and also recorded 7 assists.

Kaitlyn Ingebrigtsen served 11-of-12 and collected 3 kills while Diana Guarneros was 10-of-11 serving with an ace,

Stevenson d. Barrington: Stevenson got past host Barrington 25-21, 25-21 in the nonconference match to open the season.

Top performers for the Fillies were Peyton Tilly (8 kills, 1 blocks, 4 digs), Bailey Madrzyk (5 kills, 3 blocks, 3 digs), Tara Kozak (12 assists,), Mia Rufollo (1 ace, 3 digs) and Paige Ramel (5 blocks, 2 kills).
