Softball: Prospect's Depa 1-hits Wheeling

Prospect rejoined Hersey at the top of the Mid-Suburan East softball standings, with Elk Grove looming right behind the frontrunners heading in the final games of the season.

The Knights used a 20-0 five-inning victory over visiting Wheeling on Thursday to raise their record to 18-6 and 10-4.

Hersey also stands at 10-4 in the East while Elk Grove is at 8-5.

Cassie Cunniff (3-for-4, home run), Lauren Caldrone (2-for-3, double), Colleen Palczynski (2-for-2) and Katie Annen (2-for-2) led the Prospect offense, which also received a triple from Alyssa Cacini.

Emalee Depa (7-2) threw a 1-hitter with 7 strikeouts and 2 walks to earn the win.

Elk Grove 10, Schaumburg 0 (5 inn.): Sophomore catcher Katia Pendowski (2-for-3, 3 RBI) belted her 11th homer of the season as the host Grenadiers improved to 12-12 and 8-5. Brooke Baldassarre went 2-for-2 for the winners, who also received a double from Morgan Leach and a base hit from Grace Engwall.

Lauren Clausen (7-5) earned the win for the Grens.

Talia Torosian, Ashleigh Felde, Tiffani Rudnick and Janalee Lyke had the 4 hits for Schaumburg (2-18, 2-12).

Maine West 15, Maine East 0 (5 inn.): Sophomore Jessica Steingard fired a no-hitter with 9 strikeouts and 2 walks as the Warriors raised their record to 14-8 and 9-1 in the CSL North. Steingard also was 3-for-4 at the plate with a double.

Allison Pearson went 3-for-5 with a home run, double, 4 RBI and 2 runs. Other top hitters for the Warriors were Gabby Demma (3-for-4, double, 2 RBI), Bridget Christiansen (2-for-3) and Katelyn Aragon (2-for-2, 2 doubles, 2 RBI).

Also getting extra base hits for West were Olivia Feldkmap (triple) and Emily Divilbus (double).

West Chicago 7, Rolling Meadows 6: Sam Allen (4-for-4, home run) and Mallory King (2-for-4) were multiple hitters for Meadows (9-14) in the nonconference game while teammate Sara Benner also belted a homer. Stephanie Thompson added a double for RM.
