Softball: Carlucci, Conant bounce back vs. Fremd

Conant avenged a five-inning loss to Fremd earlier this week with a 5-4 victory on Friday in Hoffman Estates.

Senior Jackie Carlucci tossed a 4-hitter with 7 strikeouts as the Cougars raised their record to 11-7 and 7-4 in the Mid-Suburban West.

Makenna McCarthy, who belted a home run, and Hannah Oh each went 2-for-4 for Conant while Delaney Szwed, Sydney Correa, Tara Lovas and Morgan Long each had 1 hit. Trystin Lovas had 2 RBI.

Lexi D'Ambrosio homered for Fremd (13-7, 6-4). Gianna Arnieri and Hannah Ban (2-for-3) each doubled.

Fremd starter Nikki Kehoe recorded 6 strikeouts.

Hersey 13, Elk Grove 1 (5 inn.): Host Hersey improved to 14-4 and 7-3 as Brianna Luciano (5-3) threw a 2-hitter with 8 strikeouts. She also went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double.

Other multiple hitters for the Huskies were Makayla Tsagalis (2-for-4, double), Hannah Graff (2-for-4), Sarah Bailtiz (2-for-3, double) and Jodi Hermann (2-for-3).

Freshman Olivia Masnica homered and sophomore Katia Pendowski doubled for visiting Elk Gove (9-12, 5-5).

Palatine 12, Hoffman Estates 4: Sophomore Rhiann Dick earned the win for the visiting Pirates (17-4, 9-1), striking out 11 and raising her record to 5-3.

Grace Huff belted a homer and 2 doubles while going 3-for-5 with 5 RBI for Palatine.

Other multiple hitters for the Pirates were Brittany Padden (4-for-5, double), Kaitlyn Reed (2-for-4, double), Amanda Stanczuk (2-for-4), Maddie Craver (3-for-4, triple) and Emily Parrott (2-for-5, double).

Sophomore pitcher Emily Grossi wen 3-for-4 with a double for the Hawks (3-13-1, 2-9). Teammate Giselle Velazquez went 2-for-4.

Prospect 8, Rolling Meadows 3: Lauren Caldrone (3-for-5, double), Alyssa Cacini (2-for-4, double), Alex Kanter (2-for-4) and Madeline Borkowski (2-for-3, double) led the offense for visiting Prospect (16-5, 8-3) which owns a half-game lead over Hersey (7-3) in the Mid-Suburban East.

Cassie Cunniff and Jackie Orel also doubled for Prospect.

Claire Doherty struck out six while tossing a 7-hitter for the win over Elise Kowalski, who struck out four.

Sam Benner went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Meadows (9-12, 4-7) which received some strong defensive play from third baseman Mallory King, shortstop Sam Allen and first baseman Sara Benner. Cacini played solid defense at third base for the Knights.

Buffalo Grove 8, Wheeling 1: Junior Jackie Bickhaus went 3-for-4 with a triple and double for the host Bison (5-12, 3-8).

Freshman Kylie Mainville threw a 2-hitter with 5 strikeouts for the win.

Olivia Morini (triple), Hannah Young and Lauren Beiersdorf had the other hits for BG.

Senior pitcher Dakota Medrano (5 strikeouts, 6 hits) and Taylor Glass had the hits for Wheeling (0-12, 0-9).

Maine West 6, Vernon Hills 5: Jessica Steingard earned the win as Maine West improved to 12-7 and 7-1 in the CSL North.

Allison Pearson, Amanda Byrne and Brianna Torres each homered for the Warriors while Gabby Demma doubled.
