Softball: Meyer's turn for a Barrington no-hitter

Add another no-hit pitcher to the Barrington roster.

Two days after senior Catherine McMahon no-hit Hoffman Estates, teammate Tori Meyer recorded the first no-hitter of her career with a 10-0 shutout over visiting Buffalo Grove on Monday at the Fields of Dreams.

The junior right-hander (8-1) struck out 14 of the 16 batters she faced and also belted her fourth home run of the season, a solo shot in the fourth inning.

The Fillies, who recorded their 26th consecutive 20-win season, improved to 20-2 and 10-0 in the Mid-Suburban while Buffalo Grove stands at 3-12 and 1-8.

"We have tremendous pride in our consistency year in and year out," said Barrington coach Perry Peterson, who goes for his 800th career win in 27 seasons coaching high school softball on Wednesday at Prospect. "And this group of young ladies has given everything possible to make this season another memorable one in Fillies softball history."

Multiple hitters for the Fillies were Jenna Patino (3-for-3, double RBI), Kendall Peterson (2-for-4, 1 run) and Rachel Mori (2-for-3, double, RBI).

Conant 8, Elk Grove 4: Sophomore Alexa Nallen went 3-for-3 with 3 runs for host Conant (10-6, 6-3) while Makenna McCarthy (2 runs), Delaney Szwed (3 runs), Jackie Burchfield (RBI) and Sydney Correa all went 2-for-4 with a double in their Senior Day.

Classmate Jackie Carlucci (4-5) earned the win, striking out 10 and allowing 6 hits in six innings. Reliever Julia Flaishaker did not give up a hit in the seventh inning.

Elk Grove (8-11, 4-4) was led on offense by Morgan Leach (2-for-4) while Olivia Masnica and A.J. Trausch each hit homers. Grens pitcher Lauren Clausen (4-4) had 6 strikeouts.

Prospect 16, Hoffman Estates 4: Prospect (15-5, 7-3) pulled in front of Hersey by a half-game in the MSL East as sophomore Claire Doherty (8-3) threw a 7-hitter with 4 strikeouts.

Alyssa Cacini (2-for-3) belted 2 homers and was walked three times. Other multiple hitters for Prospect were Colleen Palczynski (4-for-4, 2 doubles), Lauren Caldrone (2-for-5, triple) and Alex Kanter (3-for-5, double).

Emily Grossi (3-for-3) and Mary Bean (2-for-4, 2 doubles) led Hoffman (3-11-1, 2-7).

Palatine 26, Rolling Meadows 0 (5 inn.): Senior Sarah Grossman (10-1) threw a 3-hitter with 10 strikeouts for host Palatine (16-4, 8-1).

Leading the Pirates' offense were Amanda Stanczuk (3-for-5, double, 7 RBI), Maddie Craver (3-for-4, 2 doubles, 7 RBI), Brittany Padden (3-for-4, 2 doubles, 2 RBI), Grace Huff (3-for-5, home run, 4 RBI), Rhiann Dick (3-for-3, 2 doubles, 5 RBI) and Anna Selleck (3-for-5, double, 4 RBI).

Chase Friel, Anna Selleck and Kaitlyn Reed each had a double.

Stanczuk and Padden both had 2 hits and scored twice in the Pirates' 11-run first inning.

"My team is very encouraging when I'm going through a rough time," Stanczuk said. "And in conference games like this, they really push me to do my best and I just want to come through for them."

"I was just thinking to make contact with the best strike given to me," Padden said. "With all the power from the team I knew that if I could get on base they would hit me in."

Junior Caroline Slowik was 2-for-2 for the Mustangs (8-11, 4-6).

Schaumburg 13, Wheeling 5: Talia Torosian (2-for-3, home run, 3 RBI), Tiffani Rudnick (3-for-4, 3 RBI), Caitlin Bertaud (3-for-4, home run, double, 6 RBI) and Tatiana Cooper (1-for-2 with a double helped lead the offense for Schaumburg (1-15, 1-9) in its first MSL West win.

Rachel Kissamis, Janalee Lyke and Nikki Kolodziej also had singles for the host Saxons.

Bertaud (1-7) earned the win.

Leading the offense for Wheeling (0-10, 0-8) were Dakota Medrano (3-for-3, double, RBI) and Sophia Stanke (3-for-4, double, triple, 3 RBI). Emily Lacaeyse (double), Peyton Lacaeyse (double, RBI) and Rebecca McAtee also had hits for Wheeling.

Marian Central Catholic 17, St. Viator 0 (5 inn.): Maggie VanValkenburg, Haley Robinson and Nicole Ardito had the only hits for the host Lions (2-18) in the East Suburban Catholic Conference game.
