Cutler watch: Turner backs his QB

In the wake of the commotion that Jay Cutler's comments regarding his Saturday night interception generated, offensive coordinator Ron Turner said he doesn't have a problem with the QB offering his opinion in public - sometimes.

"He's a leader, and he's doing a great job of leading out here," Turner said. "Some things you address 1-on-1, and other things you can talk about (publicly). So he'll find that fine line."

Turner also doesn't want to douse the passion and fire that Cutler brings to the offense.

"Jay's an emotional guy, and he's a fiery guy, and he's a fiery competitor," Turner said. "That's why he's an elite quarterback. That's why he's where he is. He and I have talked a lot about that.

"He's got an aggressive mentality. He's emotional. It's important to him. He's very, very competitive, so that's going to happen at times. And that's not a bad thing. He's got an edge about him that you better have if you're going to be an elite quarterback in this league, and he's got it."

Oh by the way, Cutler completed 9 of 12 passes in 7-on-7, including deep balls to Devin Hester and Earl Bennett. In 11-on-11, Cutler was 12-for-17, including long completions to Bennett and Brandon Rideau, both of whom victimized Trumaine McBride.

But when Cutler tried to fire a quick sideline route, defensive end Alex Brown got penetration, leaped in the air when he was nearly on top of Cutler and plucked the ball for an interception. Adewale Ogunleye also tipped 2 Cutler passes near the line of scrimmage.
