"This exhibit is very exciting as artists from across Illinois are participating. The mediums are as varied as where the artists come from. Oils, pastels, photography, sculptureā€¦the work is incredible."

Kathleen Leisten from Hinsdale is one of the artists in "The Art of Illinois" with her photo Thompson Center. "The James R. Thompson Center opened in 1985 as the State of Illinois Center in the Chicago Loop. Renowned architect, Helmut Jahn, designed the structure with mixed reviews. It houses open office spaces symbolic of transparent government. The tricolor building is composed principally of marble, glass and steel. The interior atrium features sixteen floors of balconied space encircling a rotunda at the building's center. The open balconies, elevators, and soaring skylight create an awesome sense of openness, light and scale. The massive steel and glass framework surrounding such a large enclosed space changed my sense of scale. As I marveled at the grandness of the atrium, my eyes were drawn upwards towards the illuminated skylight. All elements inward lead to this mesmerizing diffused lighting. I was struck by the delicate bent wire pattern contrasted against the supporting steel frame. I chose black and white to emphasize the lighting and the leading lines."

Come out on November 5th to support these incredible artists of Illinois.

Gallery Seven is managed by a group of local artists, located at 116 N. Chicago St., Suite 102, next to the Historic Rialto Square Theatre, downtown Joliet.
