Soaring into Illinois in huge numbers, bald eagles can be spotted at several suburban locations this winter.

Winter is one of the best times to observe bald eagles in the wild as they congregate to feed near open waters. “In Search of Eagles,” an outdoor event. will be held at four sites in the Fox River Valley on Saturday, Feb. 7.

St. Charles aldermen like the idea of having a floating park on the banks of the Fox River.

Leaders from the city of St. Charles, as well as its schools, parks and library, gave a 90-minute presentation during a recent St. Charles Chamber of Commerce State of the City address.

Trevor Kroll bought a McHenry County-based kayak and canoeing outfitter in early 2020, right before the COVID-19 lockdowns.That summer was insanely busy for Wonder Lake-based Scull & Oars. And while business has been strong since then — selling out weekends in the summer and many weekday groups in need of an outfitter — Kroll is ready to move on with another business venture and has put Scull & Oars up for sale.

Plein air painters from across the country are coming to St. Charles Aug. 18-24 to capture scenic landscapes. The weeklong event features 60 artists painting outdoors and engaging the community through contests, talks, and an art sale.

A search for a missing kayaker on the Fox River in St. Charles will resume Thursday, and is now a recovery effort looking for a body, not a rescue mission, authorities said Wednesday.

A riverboat history tour on Wednesday, July 30, will explore historic sites in St. Charles that could be impacted if the dam on the Fox River is removed.
