Santa gives reindeer the day off, takes helicopter to Schaumburg

With his reindeer resting up for the big day later this month, Santa chose a more conventional method of air travel Sunday for a special trip to Schaumburg.

With dozens of kids eagerly awaiting his appearance, the jolly old elf arrived at the Schaumburg Regional Airport by helicopter for his annual Santa's Flight to Schaumburg.

Among those ready to greet him was 4-year-old Winnie Sienkiewicz of Palatine.

“It's so fun for her to see Santa fly in,” said Winnie's mom, Hollis Sienkiewicz.

When asked if Winnie would be making any requests during her visit with Santa, Hollis said, “Winnie has a unicorn rocking chair at the top of her list.”
