Man and woman killed in Elburn crash identified
Two people killed early Sunday when they were ejected from their SUV in a rollover crash in Elburn have been identified.
Adriana Marquez, 29, and Tomas Vargas Jr., 34, both of South Bend, Indiana, died in the single-vehicle crash near Route 47 and Route 38.
Elburn police responded at about 3 a.m. for a call of a possible transformer or field fire near the intersection, where they found a damaged ComEd power pole that appeared to have been hit by a car and a small grass fire. After a search, officers found a 2004 Honda Pilot SUV in an adjacent farm field. Marquez and Vargas Jr. were found in different locations between the crash site and where the SUV was found.
The Kane County Coroner's office cited the preliminary cause of death as "multiple injuries in an automobile accident" and said that toxicology samples have been sent to a forensic lab.
Elburn police believe the SUV was traveling south on Route 47 and rolled over several times after the original crash. Results from a Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team investigation have not yet been released.
