Northbrook briefs: Children's book drive; Northfield Township recycling

Carroll sponsors book drive

State Rep. Jonathan Carroll of Northbrook has paired with Bernie's Book Bank to conduct a children's book drive at his service office this month.

Carroll is seeking donations of children's books for reading levels from beginner up through sixth-grade. Reference, textbooks or activity books are not being sought.

Bernie's Book Bank will then provide the books to families in need.

Through May people may drop off children's books at Carroll's district office, 3153 Dundee Road, Northbrook.

Northfield recycling effort

The Northfield Township Road District garage is open until Nov. 3 for daily recyclable drop-offs for township residents. Participants may be asked to provide identification indicating residence within Glenview, Northbrook or Northfield.

The road district garage, 237 Melvin Drive, Northbrook, accepts recyclables from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

No televisions, computer monitors or business recycling materials are accepted. Details about what items are accepted are available at road.northfieldtownship.com under the "Recycling Program" tab. Also, the road district will hold several other recycling events at the garage. There are monthly dates for paper shredding for sensitive documents, and two dates for household chemical recycling - June 24 and Oct. 28, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Residents should check the district website for changes or updates.
