Household hazardous waste collection events shift to appointment only

The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County has switched to real-time appointments for one-day household hazardous waste events. The scheduler works online and on mobile devices. According to SWALCO, the move to appointments will allow for safe and efficient planning, coordination and control of incoming household chemical waste and visiting vehicles. Collections are for residential waste only. No business waste will be accepted. Illinois residents only. The first event of the season is May 20 in Mundelein. Accepted items include: CFL bulbs, unwanted prescription, over-the-counter medicines and supplements (people and pet), household cleaners, gasoline, garden chemicals, pesticides, oil-based paint (no latex) and other household chemicals.
