Incumbents Massa, Morley and Garrett appear headed back to District 62 board

Des Plaines Elementary District 62 voters chose to stick with familiar faces on Election Day, unofficial results show.

Incumbents Elizabeth Massa, Beth Morley and Tina Garrett all were poised to retain their seats Tuesday, holding off challengers Gene Haring and Patrick Maag.

With all precincts reporting, Massa, a stay-at-home parent who was appointed to the board in 2021, was the top vote-getter in the race for three 4-year terms with 1,759 votes, according to the unofficial tallies.

She was followed by fellow board members Morley with 1,701 votes and Garrett with 1,635.

Rounding out the results were Haring with 1,205 and Maag with 993.

Morley is a senior project manager with a health and welfare fund who joined the board in 2015.

Garrett is an insurance agent who's been on the board since 2017. During the campaign, she said educators need to "fix our history books" and stop honoring Christopher Columbus' expeditions to the Americas.
