Q&A

Q: Why are you running for this office, whether for reelection or election the first time? Is there a particular issue that motivates you?

A: I am running for Medinah District 11 School Board for another 4 year term. I had all 3 of my kids go through District 11. I have been a parent volunteer for over 10 years and this was another way I could give back to my community and the school.

Q: What is the role of the school board in setting and monitoring curriculum?

A: As Board Members we are responsible for setting and monitoring the curriculum. We do this in a collaborative effort with the Superintendent.

Q: Are there curriculum issues within the district that you feel need particular attention from the board?

A: Not at this time.

Q: How do you view your role in confronting policy or curriculum controversies: provide leadership even if unpopular, give a voice to constituents - even ones with whom you disagree, or defer to state authorities?

A: If I have a concern whether popular or unpopular I bring it up for discussion. The great thing about our Board is that we listen to each other even though we may not agree on an issue or topic. Through these discussions we can figure out our next steps.

Q: Concerns are growing regarding a new resurgence of the pandemic. If another massive outbreak of infectious disease occurs, what have we learned from the COVID-19 pandemic that will guide your decision making?

A: District 11 did an amazing job to keep the staff and students as safe as possible. If there is another massive outbreak I feel District 11 will adjust to it without many issues.

Q: Describe your experience working in a group setting to determine policy. What is your style in such a setting to reach agreement and manage school district policy? Explain how you think that will be effective in producing effective actions and decisions of your school board.

A: My style with working in a group setting is to listen. Just because I may have a thought about something doesn't make it right or wrong. I like to understand why Board members have their opinions. Sometimes by listening I may change my opinion on a certain topic.

Q: What makes you the best candidate for the job?

A: I think I am the best candidate for this position because I have been part of this community for most my life. I have been a parent whose kids have gone through this District. I have been a parent volunteer for over 10 years between all three schools. I can also look at a situation from different perspectives than others by having these experiences.

Q: What's one good idea you have to better your district that no one is talking about yet?

A: One idea I have is to bring back Home Economics. These are important life skills that need to be taught to

kids. These skills build responsibility and independence.
