McHenry County deputies find two kilograms of fentanyl in truck in Cary

McHenry County sheriff's deputies found two kilograms of fentanyl last month in a truck on Route 14 in Cary, the McHenry County state's attorney's office announced Wednesday.

It was one of one of the largest fentanyl seizures in county history, according to the news release, which said it happened "on or about Feb. 24."

No arrests were reported in the news release.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid similar to morphine but much more potent. Two milligrams of fentanyl - the equivalent of about 10 to 15 grains of table salt - is considered a lethal dose, the state's attorney's office said, and one kilogram has the potential to kill 500,000 people.

Drug dealers often mix fentanyl with other drugs such as heroin, methamphetamine and cocaine.
