Three firefighters suffer minor burns battling house fire in Bloomingdale

Three firefighters suffered minor burns battling a house fire early this morning in Bloomingdale that caused an estimated $900,000 in damage.

All three firefighters were treated and released at the scene of the fire on the 300 block of Erie Circle, Bloomingdale Fire Protection District officials said.

Firefighters were called to the two-story, single-family house just after 1 a.m. when a neighbor spotted the fire in the home's attached garage.

The house was unoccupied at the time, fire officials said. The home was being renovated.

Fire officials are still trying to determine what sparked the blaze, which caused significant damage to the garage and spread into the home's attic.

It took firefighters nearly two hours to extinguish the blaze, and they were on scene for nearly five hours performing salvage operations and checking for hot spots.

The house was deemed uninhabitable.
