Cook County Commissioner Kevin Morrison will host a free in-person Environmental Resource Fair from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at Rahlf's Woods, 1350 S. Park Ave. in Streamwood.

The event will feature a variety of family-friendly events and activities aimed at helping attendees learn about protecting the environment.

"Whether it's learning about solar panels, monarchs and pollinators, or how to save money on energy bills, the Environmental Resource Fair will have something for the whole family," Morrison, a Democrat from Mount Prospect, said in an announcement of the event.

Events and activities will include information on sustainability, free compost bags and a raffle for rain barrels, kids' activity sheets with puzzles and bike safety questions, information about how to save on your utility bills and installing solar panels on your home, and more.

The fair is co-sponsored by the Cook County Department of Environment and Sustainability, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Commissioner Eira Corral Sepúlveda, the Illinois Environmental Council, Citizen's Utility Board, Streamwood Park District, Poplar Creek Library District, Trickster Cultural Center, Elevate Energy, Schaumburg Monarch Initiative, Cook County MEDS Disposal Initiative, and the Chicago Botanic Garden.

The fair will be held in the Poplar Creek Library if there is inclement weather.
