Juvenile passenger dies in fatal car crash in Lake in the Hills

A juvenile passenger died in a three-car crash Tuesday night in Lake in the Hills, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 10:06 p.m. on Rakow Road between McHenry and Pyott roads and involved a Honda Civic, a Nissan Sentra and a Volkswagen Passat. Police were dispatched to the area for a report of a vehicle rolled over on Rakow Road.

According to a news release, the front-seat passenger of the Volkswagen, a juvenile, was taken to Northwestern Huntley Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the Volkswagen Passat was taken to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital, and the driver of the Nissan Sentra was taken to Northwestern Huntley Hospital, according to the news release from the Lake in the Hills Police Department.

Lake in the Hills police did not release the identity of the juvenile or the driver, or provide any additional information about the crash.

Lake in the Hills police issued a Nixle advisory around 11 p.m. Tuesday notifying residents that Rakow Road was closed at South McHenry Avenue. The road was reopened around 6:13 a.m. Wednesday.

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office Traffic Accident Investigation Unit and the Lake in the Hills Police Department are investigating the crash.
