Fire leaves two Warrenville homes uninhabitable

No injuries were reported after fire broke out Sunday morning in two Warrenville homes, causing extensive damage and leaving both uninhabitable, officials said.

Warrenville Fire Protection District firefighters responded to reports of a structure fire on the 30W000 block of Wembly Drive shortly before 10:30 a.m. and found two homes on fire, with flames showing from the roof of one residence, authorities said.

While the fire was contained in less than 30 minutes, fire crews remained on the scene for hours afterward to wait for NICOR to turn off a gas meter that had been involved in the fire at one home, officials said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
