Oak Brook man held without bail in fatal Park Ridge shooting

The Oak Brook man charged in a fatal shooting that took place in February outside a Park Ridge home was ordered held without bail Saturday.

Ian A. Bacuac, 40, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 47-year-old Michael Aldover of Skokie, who prosecutors say was shot in the chest, back, abdomen and right arm a little after 8 p.m. Feb. 8.

According to prosecutors, video surveillance showed Bacuac purchasing a firearm from a Des Plaines shop Jan. 21 and picking it up Jan. 24.

Several days before the shooting, video surveillance showed Bacuac driving a 2009 Subaru Forester with no front license plate to Aldover's home on the 200 block of Grace Avenue, where Bacuac proceed to yell and accuse Aldover of placing surveillance cameras in his home, prosecutors said. Bacuac left after a witness told him to go home, prosecutors said.

On Feb. 7, the day before the shooting, video shows Bacuac purchasing a box of 9 mm ammunition with distinctive markings from the same Des Plaines gun shop, prosecutors said.

At about 7:59 p.m. Feb. 8, video surveillance shows the Subaru Forester authorities say Bacuac was driving parked at a pharmacy less than a mile from Aldover's home, prosecutors said. Witnesses at the scene reported hearing gunshots about 8:06 p.m. Aldover was found lying on the ground next to a car with a rear door open, authorities said. Police recovered a 9 mm cartridge casing from the scene.

Video surveillance shows the Subaru Forester driving away from the scene, west on Touhy Avenue to southbound I-294, prosecutors said. The rear license plate matched a plate registered to the defendant, prosecutors said.

Police recovered the vehicle April 27. Inside they found a fired cartridge, prosecutors said. They also recovered a Blackhawks cap similar to the one authorities say Bacuac was wearing when he picked up the weapon from the gun shop. Illinois State Police experts determined the shell casing from the scene of the shooting and the cartridge found in the vehicle were fired from the same gun, prosecutors said.

Bacuac next appears in a Skokie courtroom May 3.
