Schaumburg to host recycling event April 23

The Schaumburg Environmental Committee and Schaumburg Township District Library are co-hosting a community recycling event from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at Wintrust Field.

This communitywide event will take place in the west parking lot of the stadium, 1999 S. Springinsguth Road. This is a drive-up event; participants will not need to leave their vehicles.

DocuShred will offer document destruction. There will be a limit of two boxes per vehicle. No business or institutional documents will be accepted.

Earthpaint will accept both latex and oil-based paint for a fee. Charges range from $2.50 per quart and $5 per gallon for latex paint and up to $5 per quart and $9 per gallon for oil-based paint and stains. A full list of fees is listed on the village's website at schaumburg.com/recyclingevent.

Electronic items such as computers, printers, telephones, cellphones, radios, small appliances, microwaves, holiday light strands, extension cords, and computer wiring will be accepted. Charges will apply for eligible televisions.

The event will also accept books, clothing, textiles, automotive and household batteries, motor oil, bicycles, American flags, fire extinguishers and CFL bulbs.

Items such as paint thinner, gas, cooking oil, gas cylinders or Freon-containing items such as air conditioners and dehumidifiers, or other hazardous waste will not be accepted.
