Elmhurst plans candlelight vigil, 'day of giving' for Ukraine
Elmhurst will hold a candlelight vigil and a "day of giving" next month to show solidarity with the people of war-torn Ukraine.
The city, Elmhurst Unit District 205, Elmhurst Park District, Elmhurst Public Library and Elmhurst University have joined in organizing the event more than a month after Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine.
The vigil will take place on Wednesday, April 6, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Wilder Park. The community will be invited to join in a "moment of togetherness." The vigil will include words spoken by community leaders, personal stories told from members of the Ukrainian community, a moment of silence and a reading of the State Anthem of Ukraine.
Also on April 6, civic partners will encourage community members who are interested in supporting Ukraine to consider making a financial donation to established organizations that are helping Ukrainian refugees. A list of ways to make financial contributions will be posted on Elmhurst.org/Ukraine.
