Teenager dies after Spring Grove crash

A teenager from Wisconsin has died after a three-car crash Friday night near Route 173 and Siedschlag Road in Spring Grove.

According to a preliminary investigation, a 2011 Mazda 3 struck the rear of a 2010 Ford Edge, both traveling east on Route 173, police said Monday. As a result of the collision, the Mazda veered into the westbound lane, where it was struck on the driver's side by a 2018 Toyota Camry.

The Mazda driver, identified by the Cook County medical examiner's office Monday night as 17-year-old Xavier Kokan Moat of East Troy, Wisconsin, died Monday afternoon at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

The driver of the Toyota was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The Ford driver wasn't hurt.

The Major Crash Assistance Team, which consists of area police departments, is investigating the crash.
