Suspects charged in Riverwoods, Lincolnshire gas station burglaries

Five suspects have been charged in connection with gas station burglaries in Lincolnshire and Riverwoods early Tuesday morning.

Riverwoods police responded to a burglar alarm at 3:06 a.m. at the Mobil station at 2201 Deerfield Road.

Police found a broken window and security camera footage showing several people entering the store.

Riverwoods Police Chief Bruce Dayno said the video showed the thieves first attempted to remove the store's ATM. When they realized the machine was bolted down, they instead took cash from the register and some merchandise before leaving, Dayno added.

Riverwoods police informed other area departments about the break-in, and soon after a Lincolnshire officer noticed a vehicle parked near the Marathon station at 435 N. Milwaukee Ave., Lincolnshire police Cmdr. Jamie Watson said.

The suspects had broken the front door and were attempting to break into the store's ATM, Watson said. Upon seeing the officer, they fled south on Milwaukee Avenue, Watson added.

Watson said investigators believe the suspects weren't been able to take anything from the Lincolnshire store.

The five later were caught in Chicago by a group of police officers from several agencies, Watson said.

The Lake County state's attorney's office on Wednesday charged four Chicago men - Devontae Brown, 21, Isiah Doss Jr., 21, Earl Glenn, 32, and Donald Rogers Jr., 18 - with burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle and criminal damage to property.

Chicago police charged Sharaya Williams, 19, of Bloomington, Indiana, with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and criminal trespass to vehicle, according to a news release.

Brown, Doss, Glenn and Rogers were scheduled to appear before a Lake County judge Wednesday. Information on Williams' next court appearance was not immediately available.
