Warrenville appoints two new aldermen to city council

Two new aldermen are poised to join the Warrenville City Council.

This week, the council voted to approve Mayor David Brummel's recommendations to fill an existing aldermanic vacancy in Ward 2 and a pending one in Ward 1. Both terms expire in April 2023.

Craig Kruckenberg is to complete the term of Robert Wilson, who resigned from his Ward 2 seat Dec. 31.

Kruckenberg is a state-licensed landscape architect who is the horticulture design manager at Cantigny Park in Wheaton. Kruckenberg previously worked at Naperville-based Hitchcock Design Group from 1988 to 2011.

Former Alderman Wilson was reelected in 2019 and had served more than a decade on the council. According to Warrenville City Administrator John Coakley, Wilson stepped down to spend more time with his family out of state.

The pending aldermanic vacancy in Ward 1 is to be filled by John Lockett, a sales and field manager for Warrenville-based C.R. Schmidt, Inc., which specializes in installing brick pavers and retaining walls.

Current Ward 1 Alderman Jay Anderson previously announced his plans to resign at the end of January. According to Coakley, Anderson has a new job out of state, and aldermanic responsibilities have been too much to keep up with on top of commuting weekly for work from his Warrenville family home.

"They certainly left for personal reasons - a job and family commitments," Coakley said. "Unfortunately, it happened around the same time. We lost two really good people."

Coakley said Kruckenberg could be officially sworn in at any time, though Lockett will have to wait until Alderman Anderson leaves office. Coakley expects an official swearing-in ceremony will be in February.
