Chicago man pleads guilty to Woodridge gas station robbery
One of two men charged with robbing a gas station in Woodridge has pleaded guilty.
Eddie R. Boens, 24, of the 5100 block of West Washington Boulevard in Chicago, pleaded guilty Jan. 12 to one felony count of armed robbery, according to DuPage County court records.
He was sentenced to six years in prison. He will have to serve at least 50% before being eligible for parole. He will receive credit for the nearly two years he has spent in the DuPage County jail awaiting trial.
A charge of possession of a stolen motor vehicle was dropped.
Police were called at 1:12 a.m. on Feb. 6, 2020, to the BP station at 6820 Route 53. A clerk, who was working alone, told them two men entered the station, wearing gloves and covering most of their faces.
One of the men, 23-year-old Derrick Johnson, jumped over the counter while Boens pointed what appeared to be a handgun at the clerk and ordered the clerk to open the register, authorities said
The two took $300 to $400, plus about 30 cartons and 30 packs of cigarettes, authorities said, before driving off in a vehicle that was stolen the day before in Chicago.
When Burr Ridge police tried to stop the vehicle, it crashed near 94th and Jackson streets in Burr Ridge.
The gun turned out to be a pellet gun.
Johnson awaits trial on one count of armed robbery and one count of possession of a stolen vehicle. His next court date is March 8.
