Man gets 20 years for wrong-way DUI crash that killed 2 in Clarendon Hills

A Chicago man who killed two people in a wrong-way head-on crash in Clarendon Hills has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

DuPage County Judge Daniel Guerin pronounced the sentence Wednesday for Juan Rodea-Cruz, 27, of the 4200 block of West Kamerling Avenue.

Rodea-Cruz pleaded guilty in October to two counts of aggravated DUI causing death.

Authorities say Rodea-Cruz was driving north in the southbound lanes of Route 83, just north of 55th Street, at 2:47 a.m. Oct. 20, 2019, when he crashed in to a southbound vehicle carrying four people.

Two of that vehicle's passengers - Mark Boskovic, 27, of Revere, Massachusetts and Laura Uribe, 26, of La Grange - were killed. Another man was severely injured.

Police said they found numerous opened and unopened bottles of beer in Rodea-Cruz's vehicle, and a broken 750ml bottle of liquor.

Rodea-Cruz will have to serve at least 85% of his sentence before being eligible for parole. He will receive credit for the time he has spent in the DuPage County jail since the crash.
