Five acres of McHenry County marshland scorched in fire

No injuries were reported in a Monday evening brush fire that Cary Fire Protection District officials said scorched about five acres of the Lyons Prairie and Marsh Conservation Area.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No damage amount was reported.

Firefighters were called to the area of the 7000 block of Hickory Nut Grove Road at 9:18 p.m. by a motorist reporting a fire in the field.

Fire officials said about one acre was already on fire when firefighters arrived.

The blaze was extinguished within a half-hour mainly using hand tools and ATVs to transport personnel and equipment.

Firefighters were on scene until about 10:45 p.m.

Fire officials said there were no structures within a mile of the fire.
